Tales from the Scoreboard

Greetings everybody!

As we quickly move through the month of August, there are some recent developments I'd like to let all of you know about. They have a measured effect on baseball roadtrips, so it is important to note them.

But first, as the title for this entry indicates, I have started a neat little tradition at my PK Park place of employment. As many of you may know, my duties at the ballpark have shifted from a sole grill cook to the operator of the manual scoreboard in the right field bullpen. While it is nowhere near the size of the old manual scoreboard at Civic, it does indicate runs, hits, errors, innings and outs. It is a great job as I get to watch the game from the bullpen, change numbers and visit with the players.

There are times during my work where the game slows down, the players are busy doing other things, and I get kind of bored. I have, thus, started a little tradition of sending out tweets from my phone about what life is like sitting out in the bullpen. Titled Tales from the Scoreboard, I remark on observations I see, conversations I've had with players and fans, and just general comments. It is a lot of fun and has created almost a dialogue of sorts for people who want to know a different side of the game.

Now, on to the developments. I have FINALLY landed a job here in Eugene that pays a living wage and is full-time. I start on the 23rd of August, so the Silver State roadtrip will be shortened to just a quick weekend down to Vegas. I'll fly down to Vegas on the 20th, see the Beavers play the 51s on the 21st, and come back on the 22nd.

I have also declared my candidacy for Councilor for the Creswell City Council. It will be a lot of work organizing a campaign and running for office, but it is what I want to do with my life and I feel that my hometown needs fresh and vibrant energy.

So, that is it for the changes. I am very excited to start out anew with a career and the rest of my life. I'm really glad that baseball will still be a part of it and that I can continue my hobby of baseball roadtrips.

Always take on a 3-0 pitch ;)
